MS Weekend, spectacular weather

It is hard to sum up my feelings about the MS City to Shore bike ride, there is an aura around this incredible event, people riding, having fun, staying fit, meeting new friends, and raising money to help others. The atmosphere is so pervasive and overwhelming that I am glad I get to share this feeling with all of you on Team Evesham. This is the fifth year that we rode as a team and it keeps getting better each year. My hat is off to each of you for helping us top the $100,000 fund raising goal.

When I spoke to Dan Wilson, the Captain of the Penn team we spoke about how this ride brings together the best elements in our community, with rookie and veteran riders, riders in heels, and families riding together. This weekend was an ideal time to cruise on down to Ocean City with more than 7,000 other cyclists. I can’t begin to relate all the MS Weekend stories but let me try and capture a few here. This is a ride of personal stories and I was only able to learn about a few of them. (Please share your story with me, just email me at sandy@teamevesham.org)

Family involvement, there are three quick stories here and each one is about a family of three. Ok, first the Napoli family (shown above), Mark rode on a tandem bike with his two daughters, Alyssa and Rachel, and they each raised over $1000.00. VIPs all around. The Bobrove clan, Aaron, Josh, and Michael all rode with us, Michael even came in from Japan for the event. Finally Frank, Eileen, and Lauren Landgrebe also came out as a family of three to ride in this event.

We saw many riders tackle and conquer their first century ride of 100 miles, this is truly gratifying because we have never had a team 100 mile training ride. But, Ridemaster Dave Bennis promises one for next year. Stay tuned for more details on this in 2014.

We have 27 VIP Riders (more than $1,000 raised) but remember you can keep fundraising until the end of October. So you all have an opportunity to get to the VIP level.

I saw our riders calling out obstacles, passing on the left, and setting an example for others in the ride. Heck our A plus team behind diesel Dave averaged 22 mph. Boy I think they each burned over 7,800 calories on their century ride.

The coolest experience for me was riding into Ocean City with more than 35 team mates, rookie riders, veteran riders, and century riders. We all met up after we climbed both bridges on the way into the finish line. The smiles from the team members were amazing, it was a crowning moment for me and one that I will treasure.

Two of our teammates were involved in accidents but both Kevin and Vickie remain committed to this event and both are excited about continuing to ride with us. Stay tuned, don’t put your bikes away, we will continue to ride and as a team we will participate in the Covered Bridge ride on October 20. This ride is held in Upper Bucks County and it is a great fall ride. There are several courses to chose from and all the routes give you at least one covered bridge.
