Beautiful Weather, Great Turnout

This past Saturday’s Hilly Philly ride was a great ride and success for all.  Due to the weather and the late change from the Mountain bike ride they had a small group of 4 dedicated riders.  Chuck Nowicki, John Murphy, Scott Santos, and Laura Simons took on the hills for 36 miles and over 3,200 feet of climbing.  This ride is a great interval training ride that is sure to make you a stronger rider.  See the route on RideWithGPS.

Although it was a bit chilly at 9:00am on Sunday, with the bright sun shining you got the feeling that Spring would soon be here. We had 48 riders, who remembered to set their clocks ahead 1 hour for daylight savings time, start out from Indian Spring Country Club.  This past Sunday’s route took us out through Medford, Shamong, and Tabernacle to the rest stop at Nixon’s Deli. By the time we got there you could feel the temperature rising and with little wind, it was becoming a beautiful day.  The return headed out toward Vincetown and through Medford (and Mt. Laurel, if you rode the longer route) to Marco’s at Indian Springs C.C.

Based on some conversations after the ride, it appeared that the nice weather inspired more than a few riders to hammer it bit on the return part of the ride.

We are now near the middle of March.  Spring is only a week away, and based to ancient wisdom, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”, we should have a lot of great riding weather soon!

There is a need of bike clothing for those young riders.  If you can donate any of your jerseys or shorts, it  will be  greatly appreciated.  There is a particular need for smaller sizes. Wheelies Bike Shop in Medford has volunteered to be a drop off point for any donations. Or you can bring them to our Sunday ride.  Dave Bennis will be collecting them.
  • Sunday, May 5th Bike NY Five Borough Ride. Registration is currently closed for this event but it promises be an amazing finish to a great weekend.

As the weather and temperatures improve we have fewer excuses – come on out and ride with us!
